Dan Rothenberg, President & CEO
Dan's parents moved to Pasadena in the late 1980s, and Dan was raised there. He attended the Chandler School through 8th grade and graduated from Polytechnic High School. He then went on to Harvard University, where he earned a BS in Economics. After his time in Cambridge, he returned to Pasadena and began his career as an investment advisor. He started with Morgan Stanley in their downtown Los Angeles office, where he worked until 2010. In 2010, Dan and his team moved to UBS Financial Services, Inc., where he worked until the end of 2019. At that time, Dan and his team moved to RBC Wealth Management, where he advises individuals, institutions, and family offices.
As a Pasadena native, Dan has also been active in the local community. He served on and chaired the Board of Trustees for the Chandler School. He is currently on the Board of the Legacy Foundation and the Huntington Library and Gardens. Additionally, he is involved in several other advisory councils for Pasadena and Los Angeles organizations.
Dan is married to Sarah, a graphic design artist, and they are nearing their 14th anniversary. Sarah runs her own graphic design business in Pasadena. Dan and Sarah have two young children, Morgan (13) and William (10).

John Onderdonk, Vice President
John Onderdonk serves as the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Operations & Services and Chief Sustainability Officer at Caltech. He holds a Master's in Corporate Environmental Management from the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at UCSB and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Economics from the University of Oregon. John is a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design + Construction and a Certified Carbon Reduction Manager. He has also previously served on the Hahamongna Watershed Park Advisory Council and as the chair of the LA County Chief Sustainability Officers Taskforce.
The Arroyo Seco has been a consistent backdrop in John’s life. As a child, he grew up exploring the Lower Arroyo, which helped instill in him a fascination with the natural world and a strong land ethic. As an adolescent and young adult, the Arroyo became synonymous with sports for John, including competing for school and club teams, attending world-class events at the Rose Bowl, and mountain biking throughout the Angeles National Forest.

Dr. Christopher Lee, M.D., Treasurer
Dr. Lee is an investment analyst with Capital Group with research responsibility for U.S. pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. He has 16 years of investment industry experience, nine of which have been with Capital Group. Prior to joining Capital, Chris worked as a portfolio manager/analyst at Franklin Templeton. He has invested in companies across all stages, both public and private.
Chris began his career at McKinsey & Company, advising healthcare companies in the U.S. and Europe.Chris holds a doctor of medicine degree from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University. He graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA.

Diane Wittenberg, Secretary
Diane Wittenberg served as Chair and long-time member of the California State Park and Recreation Commission. She continues to serve on several non-profit boards.
She worked at Edison International/Southern California Edison from 1985 to 2000, including as VP, Corporate Communications at both Southern California Edison and Edison International and President of two Edison International subsidiaries. She founded and was President of The Climate Registry, a non-profit that established inventory measurement standards for carbon emissions.
She lives near the arroyo and you may often meet her, her husband Dave Minning, and dog Shadow strolling the trails.

Dexter A. Bailey, Jr.
Dexter A. Bailey Jr. is the Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He is a fundraising executive with over 25 years of experience. During his career, he has successfully managed highly productive programs at Stony Brook University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, University of California at Berkeley Intercollegiate Athletics, University of Washington School of Law, and Ohio University College of Education.
Dexter is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) 50 Executive Committee. He is a former recipient of the CASE Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation Award. His expertise includes reengineering comprehensive fundraising programs, complex principal gifts, grateful patients, alumni relations, staff development, organizational optimization, and comprehensive campaign implementation. In addition, Dexter often speaks on issues related to institutional leadership, governance and the role and experience of minorities in university advancement.
He earned a BS in journalism from the Ohio University E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and an MBA from the University of Toledo.

Dino Barajas
Dino Barajas is a global project finance lawyer whose practice focuses on domestic and international project development and finance, with particular emphasis on Latin American projects. He has advised in transactions in more than a dozen countries. His clients include commercial lenders, institutional investors, investment funds, project sponsors, and public and private companies.
Dino handles domestic and international projects financing in the energy, power, infrastructure and commercial sectors, as well as in traditional banking. He advises on structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, asset finance, joint ventures and venture capital transactions.
He is a member of the Los Angeles Office Inclusion Council and was on the Latinvex list of “Top 100 Latin American Lawyers” in 2014-2019.

Bill Bogaard, Emeritus, Former Mayor of Pasadena (1999-2015)
Bill Bogaard served as Pasadena’s first directly elected mayor. He was Executive VP and General Counsel of First Interstate Bancorp, a financial services company, until its merger in the late 1990’s with Wells Fargo & Co. and before that was a partner in a Los Angeles law firm. He is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and the Michigan Law School and he served as Captain in the U.S Air Force. He is a Board Member of the Huntington Hospital, A Noise Within, and the Pasadena Community Foundation.
He and his wife, Claire, a founder of Pasadena Heritage, are parents of four children: Michele, Jeannine, Joseph and Matthew.

Lisa Evans
Lisa currently holds the position of President at the Diggers Garden Club, demonstrating her dedication to community engagement and environmental stewardship. Her academic background includes an undergraduate degree in economics from Santa Clara University, reflecting her commitment to analytical thinking and strategic planning. As a resident and neighbor, Lisa is an enthusiastic patron of the Arroyo and has expressed her interest in One Arroyo since learning about the organization two years ago. She cares deeply about the future of the Arroyo and its preservation. Her involvement in various community initiatives is noteworthy, having previously served on the Mayfield Jr. Parent Board and actively participating as a member of the Christ Child Society.
Lisa’s husband, Tom Evans, serves as the President of Sun Pacific Farming. Together, they share a passion for sustainable living and environmental conservation.

Dario Frommer
Dario Frommer is a partner at Mayer Brown LLP and previously served as the Majority Leader of the California Assembly, leaving a lasting impact on the state's legislative landscape. Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated advocate for the preservation of open space and environmental conservation. He was instrumental in the passage of California's first Urban Parks Program, a landmark legislation that generated over $300 million in funding, facilitating the construction of parks and open spaces in cities across the state.
Additionally, Dario played a crucial role in securing funding to safeguard the last pristine stretch of the Verdugo Mountains. He co-authored a groundbreaking law to combat climate change in California, demonstrating his commitment to sustainability and addressing the pressing challenges of the modern world.
Dario received a J.D. from the University of California, Davis, School of Law, and a B.A., cum laude, from Colgate University. In addition to the One Arroyo Foundation, Dario serves on the board of the Children's Law Center.

Phyllis L. Hennigan
Mrs. Hennigan has devoted decades to philanthropic and community service organizations. She recently served on the boards of both St. John’s Hospital Foundation and the Autry Museum. From 1992-2007, she was Chairman, President, Vice President and a Board member of both the Center Theatre Group and The Blue Ribbon. She was a Trustee at Mount St. Mary’s College from 2004-2014. She was Co-Chairman of The Cathedral Capital Campaign from 1997-2002, and was a Founding Member of the Director’s Roundtable at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from 1984-1997.
Mrs. Hennigan received numerous awards for her outstanding community service, including the California Hospital Humanitarian Award (2001), University of Southern California School of Music Award (1997), Assistance League Eve Award for Outstanding Community Service (1997) and the National Philanthropy Day Outstanding Volunteer for Los Angeles (1996).
Mrs. Hennigan is a 1969 graduate of Northwestern University with a B.A. in Political Science. After college, she worked in the Arizona House of Representatives as the Administrative Assistant to the Governmental Relations Committee and thereafter in real estate sales.
Mrs. Hennigan lives in Pasadena and has two daughters and 5 grandchildren with her late husband, J. Michael Hennigan.

Priscilla Hernandez
Ms. Priscilla Hernandez is the President of the Hollenbeck Police Business Council, a nationally recognized youth service provider with a legacy spanning five decades. Prior to her current position, Ms. Hernandez served as a Deputy Director under Governor Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles and Sacramento. Her tenure with the Governor was noted for her coalition building, highly visible event planning, project management, and external relations with key California stakeholders. As a Campaign Statewide Coalition Deputy Director in Education, she built key alliances and developed statewide communication strategies.
Most recently, Ms. Hernandez has initiated and sponsored state legislation to establish uniform practices within local education agencies when dealing with students with nutritional health concerns.
Ms. Hernandez has an extensive background in philanthropy and non-profit organizations. She has been actively involved in activities at both regional and national levels. She was a past Chair of a Commission in the City of Pasadena. Ms. Hernandez also serves on various boards, including the ASAS National Foundation, the GLAAC Boy Scouts of America, and the National Ambassadors of FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education).
Ms. Priscilla Hernandez received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MPA from the University of Southern California. She currently resides in Pasadena with her husband, Zachary, and their two young sons, Zacky and Jacob.

Lena L. Kennedy
A visionary leader and tireless volunteer, Lena L. Kennedy serves as CEO of Community Women of Vital Voices that specializes in community building strategies, philanthropic consulting, and leadership coaching. Her organization, Women in Leadership Vital Voices, seeks to make its members the most informed women in the United States about public policy, politics, and how they both really work.
Her 38 years of consulting includes working with numerous corporate executives, city governments, and local, state, and federal elected officials.
Her board service includes The Kennedy Center for the Arts, Pasadena Art Council, Pasadena NAACP, Community Health Alliance of Pasadena, First AME Church - Pasadena, Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel, Pasadena Symphony Advisory Council, and Pasadena Playhouse Diversity Committee. Her extensive volunteering has earned her recognition from numerous civic organizations.
In 2000, she founded the So Cal Women’s Health Conference & Expo, which has brought together more than 32,000 attendees over the years to empower them with informative and practical lectures on health, wellness, and lifestyle by renowned physicians and other healthcare professionals.
A Pasadena native, Lena received professional training at multiple institutions. One of 10 siblings, she draws strength from her deep community roots and family, which includes her children Tyesa, Jonathan, Chris, and Kari; and two beautiful grandchildren: Christopher and Savannah.

Gale Kohl
The owner of landmark Pasadena Restaurant for the past 20 years, Gale’s Italian Restaurant, Gale has been a philanthropic community supporter of Pasadena’s many charities for her entire life.
Following a long dream career overseeing food facilities for major film studios, including Walt Disney Imagineering, Kohl opened Gale’s in the heart of Pasadena.
Gale is a long-time supporter of numerous local non-profit organizations, demonstrating her dedication to the betterment of our community. Her generous contributions have significantly impacted institutions such as the Arboretum Foundation, the Armory Center for the Arts, Ability First, Huntington Hospital, MUSE/IQUE, Pasadena Humane Society, and the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation.
Notably, Gale currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, showcasing her leadership and governance capabilities in a non-profit setting. Her involvement in this esteemed organization exemplifies her commitment to fostering positive change and preserving our region’s cultural and recreational heritage.
In addition to her professional accomplishments and philanthropic endeavors, Gale deeply understands the local community’s needs and has a passion for environmental conservation.

C. Douglas Kranwinkle
Doug Kranwinkle, prior to his retirement December 31, 2012, was Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Univision Communications Inc., a Spanish language media company. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Michigan Law School. Following law school, he was a Law Clerk to United States Chief Justice Earl Warren. Mr. Kranwinkle was a Partner at the Los Angeles law firms, Munger, Tolles & Olson (1968 through 1988) and O’Melveny & Myers (1989 to September 2000).
Doug is currently a member of the board of the Rose Bowl Operating Company and of the Advisory Board to the Pasadena Education Foundation. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan Law School, a member of the American Law Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations, a board member of the National Association of Broadcasters, California Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA of Greater Los Angeles, Southern California Public Radio, Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media. He has also served as President of the Board of Trustees of Polytechnic School in Pasadena and as chair of a task force appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Pasadena, California.
Doug and his wife, Susan, have lived in Pasadena since 1967. They have 2 adult children and 6 grandchildren.

Kristie L. Lin, M.D.
Dr. Kristie Lin is a board-certified physician who specializes in the surgical and medical treatment of adult and pediatric retinal disorders. She is the medical director of California Oculoplastics and Retina.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with Honors, from the University of California at Davis. She subsequently went on to receive her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Further medical training included her ophthalmology residency at New York Medical College, and her vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Lin has published many peer-reviewed articles and has presented at conferences throughout the nation. She collaborates with the Doheny Eye Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in clinical research. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, and Women in Ophthalmology. She has been featured on PBS for Women's History Month as a female leader in the community.
She is also active in her community and is serving on the board of the Oak Knoll Neighborhood Association (OKNA) and also founded the Women’s Initiative to Save Eyes (WISE), a women’s eye health initiative.
Kristie and her husband, Joseph, live in Pasadena with their three children and enjoy hiking and exploring in the Arroyo.

Dr. Lawrence Lurvey
Lawrence Lurvey, MD, JD, MEd, has been a resident of Pasadena since 2006, where he lives with his wife, Elena, and their two children. As a physician-attorney, he practices obstetrics and gynecology at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center and is the founding partner of Summitbridge Health Solutions, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in health systems and social justice.
With a commitment to community engagement, Dr. Lurvey sits on the Executive Oversight Team of the Los Angeles Urban Center, conducting research and providing educational outreach on urban forestry. He also serves as a commissioner on the Pasadena Community Police Oversight Commission, dedicated to ensuring equitable neighborhood policing. Additionally, Dr. Lurvey is on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of San Gabriel Valley, working to counter anti-Semitism and hate speech. He is an active member of the March of Dimes advocacy group, the Brady Center for Gun Violence, and the Preconception Health Council of the California Department of Public Health. He also serves as an editor for the Joint Commission Journal of Quality and Patient Safety and as a reviewer for the Medical Board of California.
Dr. Lurvey is a graduate of the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois Medical Scholars Program, the University of California San Diego Residency, and the Harvard Business School Executive Program. At Kaiser Permanente, he has held various leadership roles overseeing women's and children's health, quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory affairs.
His family enjoys regular dog walks in the Arroyo, where Pasadena's stunning landscape offers a plethora of things to see and sniff.

Allison Morgan
Allison Morgan has a private psychotherapy practice in South Pasadena that specializes in treating business professionals. Allison was previously Of Counsel as a litigator at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan for 12 years. As the Director of Associate Development, Allison hired law clerks and associates and integrated them into the firm. Allison was involved in the associate training and pro bono programs. She also worked with the Public Strategy Group to counsel companies in high-profile litigation. Allison lived on the Arroyo with her parents and four sisters until attending UCLA and then Loyola Law School. She enjoys coaching her son’s soccer games and watching baseball games at Brookside Park. Her family enjoys a long tradition of exploring trails in the Arroyo.

Molly Munger
Following a twenty-year career as a federal prosecutor and business litigator, Molly Munger has devoted a second twenty years to civil rights work. She has recently retired from daily work at civil rights group Advancement Project and now serves on the board of its California office’s successor, Catalyst California.
Both Molly and her husband, Steve English, began their legal careers at Agnew, Miller & Carlson, where they gained a life-long appreciation for their mentor, Bill Bogaard.
Molly is a committed Pasadenan who appreciates all aspects of the Arroyo. Since she was nine, except for the years she was away in school, she has never lived more than a few blocks from an Arroyo edge.
Molly has served on many boards, including 11 years with the James Irvine Foundation. She is a former Commissioner on the First 5 California Commission and a former trustee of Occidental College..
Molly and her husband Steve have two married sons and four grandchildren, with the latest two, now 4 and 3, following the family tradition by living on South San Rafael about a block from the San Rafael Bridge.

J. Kristoffer “Kris” Popovich
Kris Popovich was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and became a resident of Pasadena the next year. Kris has three daughters and eight grandchildren.
Kris attended the University of Southern California graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1965 and a Masters of Business Administration in 1970.
Kris held the position of Chairman and CEO for Hoffman Video Systems from 1978 until the company was sold in 2010. Since 1998, he has been Chairman and Secretary for Hoffman Associates, Inc. He is also a Trustee for the H. Leslie & Elaine S. Hoffman Foundation.
Since 1978, he has served the University of Southern California in various capacities, currently serving as a Trustee and Chairman of the Board of Leaders.
Kris has been involved in numerous community organizations over the past 30 years, including Chairman, Board of Directors Kidspace Children’s Museum; Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles Board of Directors; YMCA Metropolitan Los Angeles; Rancheros Visitadores; Criminal Justice Legal Foundation and Young President’s Organization.
Kris enjoys membership in the Los Angeles Country Club, Annandale Golf Club, and Valley Hunt Club.

Paula M. Verrette, M.D.
Dr. Verrette received her Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University and Medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed internship/residency at LA County-USC Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident in Pediatrics.
In 1987 she opened her first medical practice serving the children of Pasadena. She has served in various leadership roles on Huntington Hospital’s medical staff, including chair of the Department of Pediatrics, chair of Quality Management and Chief of Staff, 2005-06.
She has served as pediatric consultant to the Pasadena Unified School District, Pediatric Medical Director of the Community Health Alliance of Pasadena (CHAP) Clinic, Project Director of the Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program, and Director of Pasadena Community Asthma Program.
She was named one of the “best doctors in Los Angeles”, Los Angeles Magazine, 1997; named YMCA’s “Woman of the Year”, 1999; presented with the “Living Legend Award” from American Medical Women’s Association, 2005.
A Pasadena resident for 36 years she has enjoyed the beauty of the Arroyo while recognizing the fragility of this exceptional community resource. She is committed to preservation of green space for all populations and excited to be a part of making the Arroyo dream come true.

Cynthia Kurtz, Interim Executive Director
Cynthia Kurtz brings a wealth of experience spanning both the public and non-profit sectors. Her distinguished career includes serving as City Manager for the City of Pasadena, Interim City Manager for the cities of Covina and Santa Ana, and President of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership. Currently, Cynthia represents the City of Pasadena on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and contributes her expertise to the Advisory Board for Leadership Pasadena, as well as the City of Pasadena’s 710 Corridor Planning Committee.

Rick Gould, Managing Director
Rick retired in December 2017 after 17 years as the Director of the City of Santa Clarita’s Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, overseeing over 110 full-time and 400 part-time employees, an operating budget of approximately $22 million, and a growing capital budget for new facility development in Los Angeles County’s third-largest city.
Rick sat on the boards of several government and non-profit organizations, including the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Council, the United States Lifesaving Association, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Santa Clarita Valley. He remains a representative of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy on a joint powers agency board.
In March 2018, the California Parks and Recreation Society (CPRS) honored him with the Award of Excellence for Professional Service. He is now included in the Fellowship/Hall of Fame for CPRS. In April 2018, the United States Lifesaving Association recognized his over 30 years of contributions to the national organization, rip current studies, and drowning prevention.
Rick has over 40 years of experience in Parks and Recreation, including roles as Community Services Manager for the City of Pleasanton, Parks and Community Services Commissioner for the City of San Ramon, and overseeing the Ocean Beaches and Aquatics programs for the City of Santa Cruz.
Rick worked as the Executive Director of One Arroyo since its inception and transitioned to Managing Director in 2024, focusing on projects and other tasks for the organization. He lives with his family in Pasadena and looks forward to the continued growth of the One Arroyo Foundation.

Judy Kent, Administrative Assistant
A native Pasadenan, Judy graduated from Pasadena High School in 1962 and Pasadena City College in 1964. In 1965, she accepted a temporary position with the City of Pasadena, which turned into a 35-year career, retiring in 2000. During her tenure, she served in various capacities at City Hall before being promoted in 1978 to Administrative Assistant to the Mayor and Board of Directors—now known as the City Council—a position she held for 17 years. During this time, she was privileged to work with Josephine (Jo) Heckman, Loretta Thompson-Glickman, and Kathryn (Katie) Nack—Pasadena’s only female mayors to date. In 1985, she was appointed Assistant City Clerk, a position she held until her retirement.
Following retirement, Judy served as Field Representative to Mayor Bill Bogaard from 2006-2010 and as Deputy City Clerk (part-time), assisting with the City’s municipal elections in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. In 2008, she was one of nine women recognized by Pasadena’s Women at Work organization as a Medal of Excellence recipient.
Judy continues to reside in Pasadena, has three stepchildren, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with family, and has been a volunteer with the Pasadena Police Department since 2014.

Candy Renick, Director of Development
Candy's passion for the outdoors and dedication to environmental preservation led her to join One Arroyo as Director of Development in 2019. Drawn by the Foundation's mission to restore and preserve the Arroyo Seco and foster a deep connection between people and nature, she enthusiastically embraced her role in supporting this cause.
Before her tenure at One Arroyo, Candy carved out a successful career in the fashion industry in Los Angeles and later in Hollywood, working for Imaginary Forces, a design and production company. Once she became a mother of three, she decided to step back to focus on her children and community, which led her to discover a newfound passion for non-profit fundraising.
Candy has served her community in various capacities, including six years on the Board of Trustees at Chandler School, where she chaired the Capital Campaign and Development Committee. She also worked in the Advancement Office at Westridge School for Girls, organizing major school events and fundraising efforts.
In addition to her work with One Arroyo, Candy remains actively involved in volunteer work. She serves on the Casa Treatment Center board and is a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster children in Los Angeles. Candy holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
